POP3 Mailbox #

After migrating your email to CP CLOUD HOSTING, you might notice that your POP3 mailbox is re-downloading all messages from the server, causing duplicates in your mail client. While we strive to prevent this behaviour, it can occasionally occur, especially with POP3 mailboxes configured to ‘Leave a copy of mail on the server.’

Why Does This Happen? #

During a migration, we make every effort to retain the internal IDs of messages. However, not all mail clients recognise these IDs after the migration, leading them to download all messages again.

Recommended Solution #

We highly recommend switching to IMAP as soon as possible. IMAP provides several benefits, including:

  • Syncing: Message statuses and folders automatically sync across all devices accessing the mailbox.
  • Access Anywhere: You can access your mail online via our webmail system.
  • Avoid Duplicates: IMAP avoids the issue of duplicate messages that can occur with POP3.

Steps to Confirm and Switch to IMAP: #

  1. Confirm Stored Messages:
    • Use our webmail system to confirm what messages are stored on the IMAP server.
  2. Reconfigure Your Mail Client:
    • Change your email client settings from POP3 to IMAP.
    • Ensure all mail is already stored on the IMAP server.

Benefits of IMAP: #

  • Synchronization: All message statuses and folders will sync across all your devices.
  • Webmail Access: Access your email from any web browser using our webmail system.
  • No Duplicates: Avoid the hassle of duplicate messages that can occur with POP3.

By switching to IMAP, you can ensure a smoother and more reliable email experience with CP CLOUD HOSTING.
