Domain Transfer Statuses Explained #

After submitting a domain name for transfer, you can monitor its progress on the Pending Domain Transfer page. Throughout the transfer process, you might encounter several statuses:

  1. Pending Owner Approval: If an authorisation code (EPP) hasn’t been submitted with the transfer request, the registry will send an approval email to the administrative email address listed in the domain’s contact details. Locate the email and follow the instructions to advance the transfer to the next stage.
  2. Pending Registry Approval: Once the domain transfer has been verified either by an authorisation code (EPP) or an approval email, the final confirmation from the previous registrar is required before the transfer completes. No action is needed on your part, and the transfer typically completes within 5-7 days.
  3. Transfer in Progress: This status indicates that all required approvals have been received, and the domain transfer is actively being processed. The completion time may vary depending on the registrars involved.
  4. Transfer Completed: The domain has been successfully transferred to the new registrar. The new registrar now has control over the domain, and the former registrar no longer has any access or control.
  5. Transfer Failed: This status indicates an issue with the transfer, causing it to fail. Reasons may include inadequate domain preparation, incorrect authorisation code, or rejection by the losing registrar.

Once a transfer completes, it will be removed from the Pending Domain Transfer page, and you will be able to manage the domain from the Manage Domains page.

Note: The exact wording of statuses might vary depending on the registrars involved in the domain transfer.
