Free SSL #

Let’s Encrypt requires that the authoritative nameservers be set to our own to issue their Wildcard Certificates under the ACME DNS verification method. This requirement is beyond our control. However, there are multiple benefits to applying a wildcard SSL to your hosting package with StackCP:

  1. Automatic Security for Subdomains: Adding new subdomains will automatically be secured under the wildcard SSL. This simplifies maintaining and managing your website’s certificates, eliminating the need to apply and track multiple SSLs. For example, we’ll provision an SSL that covers *.example.com for your domain.
  2. Secure Custom Mail Hostnames: The wildcard SSL also covers custom mail hostnames. If you want to use imap/smtp.yourdomain.com, you can do so by applying the free SSL to the hosting package. We’ll handle the rest, ensuring mail is sent and received over a secure connection.
  3. Automatic Renewal: These SSLs renew automatically every 90 days without requiring any intervention. Once you’ve applied the free SSL, you can be confident that your website will continue to load securely via HTTPS.

How to Activate Your Free SSL #

To activate the free SSL, ensure that your domain’s nameservers are pointed to StackCP nameservers:

  • ns1.stackdns.com
  • ns2.stackdns.com
  • ns3.stackdns.com
  • ns4.stackdns.com

Steps to Activate:

  1. Go to Manage Hosting.
  2. Select Options > Manage on the hosting package you wish to activate the SSL for.
  3. Under Security, click on the SSL/TLS icon.
  4. You will see your domain name and an option to Activate Free SSL next to it. Select this, and the SSL will be applied to your domain.
  5. If you want all visitors to use SSL connections (i.e., always use HTTPS), select the Enable option at the bottom of the page.

Using Simple SSL if You Can’t Point Nameservers to StackCP #

If you’re unable to point the nameservers to our own, you can use our Simple SSL, which can be purchased within your CP CLOUD HOSTING account.
