StackCP DKIM Record #
DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) is a standard for email authentication that helps verify whether an email was indeed sent from the domain it claims to be sent from and ensures it has not been altered in transit. Adding DKIM records is essential for maintaining email integrity and improving deliverability.
Why Use DKIM? #
DKIM provides a cryptographic signature in the email header, allowing receiving mail servers to validate the email’s origin and integrity using a public cryptographic key. While DKIM doesn’t guarantee email delivery, it helps mail servers make better decisions on how to handle emails.

The DKIM signature will be added immediately to emails sent from the mailboxes under the selected domain. StackCP will automatically add a corresponding DNS record to Manage DNS. Allow some time for the DNS to propagate for DKIM to become effective.
Advanced Options (Optional) #
These options are recommended for users familiar with customizing DKIM signatures:
- Selector: A unique identifier for the DKIM record (e.g., “sales2024”).
- Granularity/Identity: Assign the DKIM record to a specific mailbox by setting a value (e.g., “sales”). By default, it’s set to a wildcard value ‘*’.
- Note: A field for recording information about the DKIM record for your reference.
- Service Type: Set to either ‘*’ or ‘Email’. Currently, DKIM only supports email.
- Canonicalization: Choose ‘Simple’ or ‘Relaxed’. ‘Relaxed’ is more forgiving to email modifications.
- Expiry Time: Set the validity period of the DKIM signature (default is 86400 seconds or 1 day).
- Flags: Choose between ‘Production’ and ‘Testing’. Use ‘Testing’ for trial purposes and ‘Production’ for regular use.
Conclusion #
Adding a DKIM record to your domain is a crucial step in email authentication, helping to improve email deliverability and prevent spoofing. Follow the steps outlined above to set up DKIM in StackCP and use the advanced options if needed to tailor the DKIM settings to your requirements.
